(My Zaidy, a great Tzaddik, was very famous when he was alive.) I want to tell you that he sat down next to me when I was sleeping, and said to me, "Yingel Yingel my Zeesa Yingel (my beloved boy) I am so proud of you. I am so happy that you are in the house that you are, in the home that you are, and I Bentch you that you should continue bringing truth to our family and truth to the Yidden wherever they might be."

And then he said, "I have more to tell you. I am very worried about my adopted homeland the United States of America. I am not worried about the place itself, as we all know its pure Edom. I have always realized how this Golus of Edom has almost destroyed all Yiddishkeit in America.

"But no I am not worried about the Edomite country called the United States. I am worried about the Yidden in United States. First of all they are in very big physical danger and of course we know very well that the Yidden in America, including the Frum, are in great spiritual and physical danger. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but the very big majority of the Yidden in America are in very big spiritual danger.
"Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that the Yidden all over the world are in a better condition, but I am worried especially about the Yidden in the United States of America.

"I really want them to do Teshuva, real Teshuva. And I know that I have said this many times, and people don't understand what I am talking about. Even when you explain it so clearly, most people just brush it off because it's much more interesting to be busy with the Gashmius than to be busy with the Ruchnius. It take less spiritual and emotional effort to rise high in the attainment of the Gashmius, than it takes to rise high in the attainment of the Ruchnius.

"Since I was very young I realized that the American Jewish community would eventually disappear. Now however I see clearly that the United States of America is disappearing right in front of our eyes. Soon there will be no United States of America, and the Yidden will have to find themselves a new home. I hope they decide on Eretz Yisroel, and hope they do it quickly, because if not well……. "

Then he asked me to sit down with him and say Tikkun Chatzos. Together we Davened and we cried, and we cried, and we cried. I closed my eyes so I could feel the Tza'ar HaShechina, (the pain of Hashem) and when I opened them my Zaidy was gone.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486124639286489110.post-81351293146378098832013-08-30T13:36:39.659+03:002013-08-30T13:36:39.659+03:00typical AngloJew submissive behavior.

If there is any incorrect/missing information from this analysis, let me know:

1. Joe and Jessica
From what Amy told Joe & Jessica (the 2-3 year camera rental), it is now just over the 2-year mark. So I can see why, from that perspective, they may feel entitled to more time; the real issue is when they were informed of the proposed change in renter status and if they agreed to it (or not) back in December 2012. If they were informed and agreed to it, they bear as much responsibility as Amy for this situation and should return the camera. If they did not agree to that change, then why were Mark/Mandy told the camera would be available?

*Side note 1: the "3 years and 3-4 months" does go over the "3 year" time frame. However, since this was an informal agreement, and they are technically still within the bounds, there is no basis to make them return the camera at this time (next year, at the 3 year mark, Amy would have a basis for taking her camera back).

*Side note 2: if Amy was going to get rental money from Mark/Mandy and is now losing that as a result of Joe/Jessica's refusal to hand over the camera, then they should at least begin paying so that Amy does not lose money.

---------------------------------------------

2. Amy
From the above information, I don't know when Joe/Jessica were told that Amy wanted her camera back and they'd have to find a new one. Right now, there seems to be a big disconnect between what Amy discussed with Mark and what she discussed with Joe/Jessica. Did Joe confirm to Amy that he'd return the camera by June 2013? Ultimately, it's Amy's camera and her responsibility to communicate with all interested parties (and to make sure that what she is saying actually got through).

And since Mark/Mandy needed to know about renewing their camera rental by May 2013, Amy needed to to confirm that right away, or at least let them know her camera was not available. Taking two weeks resulted in Mark/Mandy's losing the opportunity to renew their current camera rental, and thus have a big problem now.

I don't understand why Amy promised Mark/Mandy the camera if she was not sure of its availability. I do not think Amy acted with any bad intent, but nevertheless her actions have led to a tenuous situation for Mark/Mandy. Since she has had the biggest impact in causing this situation, I think it's Amy's responsibility to do whatever she can to help Mark/Mandy find a new camera for the price she was going to rent hers at.

--------------------------------------------

3. Mark and Mandy
Since everything was in the form of informal/verbal agreements, Mark/Mandy do not have power to force Joe/Jessica to give up the camera, nor the power to force Amy to deliver on her promise or help them find a new camera. I think that Amy should help them, but there is no way to enforce that.

In dealing with Amy in the future, I would suggest a written agreement. That way, dates and terms of would have to be hashed out when a promise is made. And all of the issues that are coming up now- when there's no time to negotiate- would have to come up earlier. I'm sorry this is not helpful for the current situation, but it's something to keep in mind for the future.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486124639286489110.post-68168451458610986712013-05-06T13:49:22.408+03:002013-05-06T13:49:22.408+03:00Seems Amy is at fault for promising it to Mark and...Seems Amy is at fault for promising it to Mark and then reneging on that promise simply because Joe wanted to keep it for longer than he was promised. Seems Joe is being unfair for assuming that he is entitled to the upper limit of the range given, rather than a general halfway in the middle (which is close to what he'd have gotten if it were taken from him now). However, despite the others not behaving appropriately, there isn't really much that Mark can do to change whether he can borrow it or not. Is there perhaps a "camera" gemach somewhere that can be borrowed from instead? If that won't work, perhaps they can find one to rent and agree to chip in equally for the rented one? (It doesn't sound like people would be very open to that idea either, but at least it's a thought.)DeFender1031https://www.blogger.com/profile/01768211617800867459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486124639286489110.post-54523943061819015902013-04-17T07:58:56.713+03:002013-04-17T07:58:56.713+03:00Very effectively written. Sorry I missed this until now; this is ...Hi Hannah,
Sorry I missed this until now; this is what happens when I don't review comments... Hope it's not too late.

Pyrex stuff-- if it's not a matter of weight, bring them. They're a fortune here, and very, very worth it (in my opinion).

I brought a few things when I made aliyah-- literally the things I had from college (and not even all of them). I lived in a merkaz klita with two others in my apartment, and we bought and shared as needed (we all kept kosher to the same standard, which made it much more possible to share stuff). I made aliyah at the end of December, and went back the following summer. I bought almost my entire kitchen and shipped it.

You might think I'm kidding- I'm not. I spent about $1000 in the Corningware outlet, another few hundred between Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and who knows where else and sent it all to Israel. I decided I wanted to get good quality stuff that would last-- Corelle, Pyrex, Farberware, T-Fal, etc. So I did. I'm also a kitchen brat. And I'm very happy.

There are plenty of people who buy kitchenware in Israel and do just fine. I found that the American name brand and quality that I knew and like and am comfortable cooking with (very important! If you cook, you MUST be comfortable with your cookware!) costs 2-3 times as much as it does in America. What I did was I bought large plastic storage crates and packed them with stuff-- that way I got the crates there, and I know what was packed where and how my stuff was packed (however some of the crates did get damaged/cracked. They should have been wrapped in bubble wrap paper or put in a box to protect them).

When debating if/how/when to ship things, be realistic. I had textbooks, furniture, clothes, books, sentimental things, etc. I figured out the cost of replacing them in Israel (at the same quality) and it turned out to be more cost-effective to ship them. You don't have to send a 40-foot container-- there are 20-foot ones, as well as partial container shipments, which means that your stuff gets packed in a container with other people's stuff but you all get charged and your stuff processed individually.

When considering shipping vs. buying electronics, remember that there is different voltage in Israel, and warranties/guarantees/service plans may not be valid overseas (meaning outside of wherever you buy the item).

I hope you see this in time! If you have any other questions, comment on the most recent post-- even if it's totally unconnected. That way I'm more likely to see the comment and be able to reply faster.

B'hatzlacha!
